In the Prototype, Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1, all single doors are made out of wood, have brass door handles, and have keyholes. Depending on the game or build, the player will have to find the key, code or keycard necessary to unlock a locked door. Some doors are locked by locks, combination locks or keycard terminals. You can look through the keyholes in doors to observe what's happening on the other side. In HN Alpha 1, Theodore could knock down doors blocked by chairs.
